1920s–1981
Foundations of a Community
Starting in the 1920s, Armenian pioneers arrived in San Diego, where they nurtured a vibrant spiritual and heritage-rich local presence. Following decades of collective prayer and hard work, the 1981 consecration of St. John Garabed Armenian Church marked a pivotal milestone, securing a fixed home for our people.
1990–2010
Growth, Vision & 18 Acres in Del Mar
As the Armenian population in San Diego continued to grow through new waves of immigration, the community began envisioning a larger future. Through extraordinary generosity and long-term planning, 18 acres of land in Del Mar were secured to create a new campus — launching the “Bridge to the Future” vision for generations to come.
2014–Present
Building the Future
Following years of approvals, planning, and community-wide commitment, the vision for the new campus became reality. From groundbreaking ceremonies and major fundraising efforts to the consecration of the Sanctuary in 2022 and future plans for the Armenian Community Center, Education Center & Library, and a Youth Center and Gymnasium, the community continues building a lasting legacy for future generations.
